Thoreau’s stuff:

The interior of the house was furnished with a bed, a table, a small desk and lamp, and three chairs -- "one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society."

That is a kind of benchmark for the simple good life, especially if your friends feed you most evenings and your mom does your laundry, as was Henry’s happy arrangement.

I would love to hike this route. I like the description you gave. Very helpful in judging if I could do this.

I had similar feelings about my belongings last time I moved. Suddenly I understood why it would be nice to own a place.

Best of luck on your move, Carrot. I’m a bit sad for you, as it seems you’ve been really happy in Anchorage with a wonderful community there. But also excited for you, because of course it’s an adventure to move to a totally different place! And adventure is (usually) fun, or at least gives us some fun stories. Good call on keeping your stuff. I’ve moved a lot as well and have regretted some of my purges. Thanks as always for sharing with us so openly and vulnerably. Looking forward to hearing all about where you land next.

This is an amazing resource! Especially the notes on water and campsites. I'm definitely gonna try some sections/variations this summer. Anyone who wants to join, hmu :)
